| Goals |
Progress toward goals through the M.I. program |
| 1) Receive further instruction on how to
effectively incorporate technology into mathematics instruction |
All of the courses I have taken in the
Educational Technology specialization, EDUC 685, EDUC 667, EDUC 639 and EDUC
632, have further equipped me toward effective classroom implementation of
technology. I have discovered Wiki’s, classroom blogs, mathematical concept
mapping, and a plethora of internet curriculum applications. |
| 2) Increase my knowledge of how to convey and
reveal mathematics subject matter to my students for successful learning |
This goal was more difficult to obtain within
the Ed Tech strand. However, EDUC 730, Implementing Middle School Math Using
Technology, presented many methods for meeting this goal. EDUC 639 also focused
on math and science applications increasing my knowledge of conveying subject
matter successfully to my students. |
| 3) Expand my repertoire of instructional
techniques and strategies and the appropriate use of each one for increased
student motivation and learning |
The M.I. program receives high marks for
facilitating my meeting this goal. The courses and instructors not only
encouraged me to seek out and discover new strategies, they also caused me to
reflect upon the appropriateness of each for motivating student learning in my
classroom. EDUC 658 required me to examine my disciplinary plan and determine
its effectiveness in motivating students to effective learning, and EDUC 639
and 685 offered new multimedia strategies for increasing student motivation. |
| 4) Strengthen my knowledge of student
development and its effect on the educational environment |
Obtaining my master’s degree has reawakened many
of the specifics imparted to me in my UD undergraduate studies. It has been an
encouragement to return to the educational environment to review, strengthen,
and acquire new knowledge of student development. EDUC 639 Technology and
Cognition has broadened my knowledge of successful classroom environments and
how knowledge of students – their development, learning styles, and diverse
needs – facilitate successful learning environments. |
| 5) Increased effectiveness in the classroom
through a stronger knowledge of my subject matter, teaching practices, and
instructional policies |
I believe the M.I. program has increased my
effectiveness in the classroom enabling me to increase my repertoire of
teaching techniques, rethink and reflect upon my instructional policies, and
the instructors have facilitated my ability to change and adapt theories to
classroom practices (EDUC 658, 685, 632, 639). I do not feel I have a stronger
knowledge of my subject matter; however, EDUC 667 introduced me to an excellent
method of utilizing technology to support mathematical concept instruction and
EDUC 730 to Fathom, a data analysis program. |
| 6) National Board Certification |
I believe this portfolio (EDUC 648) and each of
the courses I have completed increases my effectiveness in the classroom and
facilitates my ability to achieve National Board Certification. |
